HVAC CSR / Call Taker Pre-Hire Assessment
The short answer: First Move Assessment reads what an HVAC CSR does first when a caller pushes: keep hold of the call and book it right, or promise something the board cannot keep to get off the phone. It takes the candidate 10 to 20 minutes and starts at $149.
Your first report is covered by a 30-day refund.
How it works

A seat is the job you are filling, from Service Technician and Dispatcher to General Manager and Chief Financial Officer.
What the CSR / Call Taker seat carries in an HVAC company
The CSR decides in the first moments of a call whether it turns into work. In July the second wave of no-cool calls lands at four in the afternoon, every caller wants somebody today, and the screen shows what the day can still take.
A strong CSR keeps hold of the call. They ask what the system is doing before they promise a day, they say the diagnostic fee out loud without apologizing for it, and they get the address, the gate code and the note down while the caller is still talking, because the technician who calls back about the dog is calling about something this desk already had.
They hand up what sits above the desk, such as the warranty question or the price exception, and stay on the line to tell the customer what happens next. A CSR who promises a time the dispatcher cannot keep books the call and breaks it in the same breath.
Every seat in the trade is listed on the HVAC page.
What the standard for this seat measures
Every situation the candidate reads is written from inside this seat, in the trade's own words, and each one asks for the move they would make first. The report gives a seat match from 0 to 100 against the written standard for the CSR / Call Taker seat, with its margin of error printed beside it. It shows where the candidate's instincts line up with the seat and where they pull away, with the interview questions to ask about the gaps and what to listen for in the answers. It does not tell you whom to hire. You make the decision.
For this seat the standard leans on a quick read of the caller, on staying with the person on the line, and on holding firm on the fee and the window when a caller pushes for an exception the desk cannot give.
Where the wrong instinct shows up
- The promised window. The caller wants somebody before five, the CSR says yes, and the dispatcher learns about it when the customer calls back angry.
- The apologized fee. The CSR says the diagnostic fee like it is bad news, the caller hears room to argue, and the fee gets waived or the call gets lost.
- The missing note. No gate code, no note about the dog, no history of the last visit, and the technician spends the first ten minutes at the door finding out what the office already knew.
- The caller handed off. Every hard question gets transferred, and the customer explains the problem three times before anyone books it.
